LEGAL AUTHORITY

Act. No. 2 of February 23, 1988, as amended, creates the Special Independent Prosecutor Panel and the position of Special Independent Prosecutor.


MISSION

Provide a neutral and independent forum to quickly clarify illegal actions attributed to government officials.

Be an example of objective, impartial and excellent investigation.

PROGRAM

Investigation and Prosecution of Officials Involved in Criminal Conduct

Program Description

Designates special independent prosecutors to conduct all types of investigations related to individuals included in Section 4.2 of Act. No. 2, supra, as well as entities, documents related to its jurisdiction or assigments delineated by the Panel. In addition, solicits protection orders from the Courts to prohibit any conduct that can affect a witnesses. Files accusations and processes pertinent lawsuits within thirty days of completing the investigation. Also, prepares impartial and final reports.

FISCAL YEAR 2011-2012 ADOPTED BUDGET

The approved consolidated budget for fiscal year 2011-2012 ascends to $2,064,000 from the Joint Resolution - General Fund.

Operating Expenses reflect a net increase of $64,000, compared to the funds assigned for fiscal year 2010-2011.This increase will be used for the development of a citizen education campaign.

In accordance with Act. No. 2 of February 23, 1988, as amended, The Special Independent Prosecutor Panel will submit its petition for fiscal funds directly to the Legislative Assembly.
