LEGAL AUTHORITY

Act No. 66 of June 22, 1975, as amended, known as the Culebra Conservation and Development Act, created the Culebra Conservation and Development Authority and ascribed it to the Culebra Municipality.

MISSION

Preserve the natural, environmental and energy resources of the Island- Municipality of Culebra, as well as encourage its socioeconomic and environmental development.

Culebra Conservation and Development

Program Description

Coordinates with other public organizations, the implementation of sustainable development programs and plans for the Island - Municipality of Culebra. Provides recommendations to the Planning Board and the Permits Management Office regarding matters of land usage or projects. Plans, designs, arranges and manages all types of construction projects and/or installations on the Island-Municipality of Culebra, and evaluates projects or installation developments (for approval or denial), guaranteeing that these conform to the Management Plan of the Island-Municipality of Culebra.

FISCAL YEAR 2012-2013 ADOPTED BUDGET

The adopted consolidated budget for the fiscal year 2012-2013 amounts to $540,000. This amount includes $322,000 from the Joint Resolution of the General Fund and $218,000 from Revenues from Internal Sources.

Operational expenses reflect an increase of $21,000 when compared to funds assigned in fiscal year 2011-2012. Additional resources were included for the payment of electricity cost.

Resources from the Joint Resolution General Fund will allow the Authority to promote socioeconomic and environmental development on the island of Culebra.

Revenues from Internal Sources are generated through construction endorsements and the services offered to visitors of Flamenco Beach. Per the Authority's Organic Act these resources will be used to cover the operational expenses of the agency.
