LEGAL AUTHORITY

Act. 121- 2001, as amended, known as the Puerto Rico Film Arts, Sciences and Industry Development Corporation Act. Reorganization Plan No. 4 of June 22, 1994 as amended, ascribed the Film Industry Development Corporation to the Department of Economic Development and Commerce.

MISSION

Encourage the local industry by supporting the development, production and distribution of quality Puerto Rican films. In addition, offer the necessary incentives to stimulate the expansion of these productions to local as well as the international market.

Cinematography Industry Promotion and Development

Program Description

Encourage the economic development of Puerto Rico by establishing a self-sufficient cinematographic industry. Promote and generate productions for local and international markets. Efficiently administer the resources from the Cinematographic Industry Fund, assigned through Act 121-2001, as amended, know as the Puerto Rico Film Arts, Sciences and Industry Development Corporation Act and Act 362-1999, known as the Film Industry Development Act. This program also distributes promotional material for the development of cinematographic projects in Puerto Rico.

FISCAL YEAR 2012-2013 ADOPTED BUDGET

The adopted consolidated budget for Fiscal Year 2012-2013 is $3,971,000. This amount includes $463,000 from the Joint Resolution of the General Fund, $3,240,000 from State Special Funds and $268,000 from Revenues From Internal Sources.

The Corporation was assigned the same amount of resources from the Joint Resolution General Funds as was recieved for Fiscal Year 2011-2012. These resources will be used for operational expenses, to promote the local film industry and the development, production and distribution of Puerto Rican films.

Per Act 23-2007, the State Special Funds receives resources from the Cinematography Fund and will be used for operational expenses and to promote productions that are at the same level of quality as international cinema and to promote Puerto Rico as a filming location.
